Background: Coconut was one among four elephants rescued from a circus in Maharashtra. The young elephant was tortured and abused to perform and entertain audiences. She was never given adequate food or water, and was kept confined in chains. A bullhook (ankush) was used to brutally train her. The trauma had left a grave impact on Coconut, and she became petrified of human beings.
